Welcome to the Jailbreak FAQ. Got a question that isn't covered here? Ask over at our Jailbreak Forums.
What is it?
What do I need?
- Does Jailbreak work under UT2003 or UT2004?
- Both! Jailbreak is available for both games: this is why we refer to it as Jailbreak 200x. The two versions are fundamentally identical. They differ in that each one matches the look and feel of the game it runs on; Jailbreak 2004 has support for UT2004 features such as vehicles; and maps that use UT2004 content will naturally only be available for JB2004.
- Does Jailbreak 200x require anything from one or both of the Bonus Packs?
- Our policy is to only require the base UT2003 or UT2004 install: this is all you need.
- Do I need to update my installation to Jailbreak 2003a/2004a (Service Pack 1) to play online?
- If you are still running Jailbreak 2004 (our initial May 26 release), you can connect to a server running Jailbreak 2004a (Service Pack 1) providing the server admin who updates his server has gone through some additional steps.
- Is Jailbreak 200x available in Umod or zip format?
- Jailbreak 200x comes in both formats: zipfile and zipped Umod
- What size is the download?
- About 85MB for JB2003 and 118MB for JB2004.
- How many maps are in Jailbreak 200x?
- JB2003 comes with 9 maps. The JB2004 Editor's Choice Edition version has all of those, plus a further 8. You'll find screenshots of them all in the map gallery.
- How Jailbreak 200x have any new weapons?
- No. Jailbreak is a gametype mod. We change the rules of the game, not the way you play it. You can use weapon mutators though, to change the available weapons to your own liking.
- Does Jailbreak 200x work with mutators?
- As far as we know, yes. We obviously can't test every single mod that's released, but we've followed the guidelines for making Jailbreak work with other third-party Unreal Engine content.
- Does Jailbreak 200x work with bots?
- Jailbreak 200x has full bot support.
- Why "llamas"?
- From "lamer" in leetspeak. Llamas are players who behave unsportingly in Jailbreak. We think people enjoy games more when they are played fairly.
- Again, why "llamas"?
- You mean what do llamas do? Well, because of the nature of Jailbreak's game rules, it's possible to cheat very simply by disconnecting from a server while in jail and reconnecting moments later in freedom. A player who does this is punished by being transformed into a llama.
- I've seen other mods called Jailbreak. What is the history of this gametype?
- You'll find the answer on our Jailbreak history page.
