Last Jailbreak III Lockdown

Image - Last Jailbreak III Lockdown

Despite a hardcore who will always prefer UT over UT200x, our Jailbreak III server doesn't get many players these days, and because of this Sexmachine has cancelled the contract. It's been home to the community for a very long time, and it will be the end of an era. We're going to be saying goodbye with a final run of Jailbreak III sessions.

For the next 3 Wednesdays, relive your favourites from the history of UT Jailbreak, starting with Classic Jailbreak 205 Parole tomorrow night. That's followed by Jailbreak III maps, then the maps from Jailbreak III Gold. Then on the final day the server runs, 21 September, there's an all-out free-for-all.

So reinstall the original Unreal Tournament if you don't still have it, make sure you have all the Jailbreak maps and mark the dates and times in your calendar.

Epic Developments

My last post was about playing Jailbreak maps as Capture the Flag, and now this one is about a new conversion of a classic CTF map to Jailbreak.

I speak of none other than EpicBoy, a favourite from one of the UT bonus packs. A UT2004 version was made by MsM, and now 4WD is in the process of converting this for Jailbreak. Beta 4 has just been released, so if you're a fan of castle and gothic-themed maps, check it out and post your comments.

Turn switches into flags

A mutator that converts maps on the fly to play as Capture The Flag has been released by -=Musc@t=-, and one of the gametypes it handles is Jailbreak.

To play your favourite Jailbreak maps as CTF, just download and install UT2004 Map Converter, then select a Jailbreak map as usual but enable the mutator. Jails and arena will simply be disabled. For maps that have more than one release switch per team, the mutator picks one to be the flag base.

There's always been a tradition of converting popular CTF maps for Jailbreak. November was a favourite in the UT Jailbreak days, for example, and for Jailbreak 2004 there's CoolDude's conversion of Chrome. Now here's the process in reverse. There's a thread in our forum discussing this interesting mutator. Enjoy... but remember to come back to regular Jailbreak in time for tomorrow night's Lockdown!

Gravity: it's irresistible

A recent arrival to the Jailbreak community is Hazel, whose first Jailbreak map Gravity is now released on Nali City.

It's a fairly small map set on a space station near a start about to go supernova, which makes for a fantastic view overhead. There have been very favourable comments from some of the veterans. "A bit Snowdog like" is high praise indeed!
